Dear Vizsla Friends :
Welcome to our new blog!
Based on the culmination of 20+ years experience in rescue, we proudly announce the creation of our new Vizsla rescue organization - Midwest Vizsla Rescue (MVR). Midwest Vizsla Rescue is registered as a nonprofit in Missouri and Kansas, and has applied for 501 (c) (3) status.
We are grateful for Show Me Vizsla Club’s support over the years. However, as is the natural evolution of every organization, original intent of the founders and current interpretation of the board creates divergent paths – where the best interests of both parties is best served by a parting of the ways. Now, the interests of those supporting Vizsla rescue and those dogs in need can be laser focused. Those with other interests can be served by the SMVC.
Check out our new website www.midwestvizslarescue.org and join our newsletter list! Join our FB page https://www.facebook.com/MidwestVizslaRescue ! We always need people willing to foster and help with transport, so if you feel inclined to help, you can contact any of our team below.
While we had funds in our rescue account when we left SMVC, we were unable to take all the funds raised for the the purpose of rescue. We began all over again and hope the designated funds you helped us raise will be disbursed to a well deserving 501 (c) (3) who can use the funds for rescue to abide by the original intent of your donation.
We realize we need to raise funds as our adoption donations do not cover all our expenses. Insurance alone runs nearly $1,400 a year. We appreciate your thinking of our redheads when making your end of year donations. You can send through our Paypal button or mail to:

The founding members of SMVC are thrilled to finally achieve our goal of establishing a separate Vizsla Rescue organization which ensures the continued support of Vizsla Rescue. THANK YOU. It’s been a long journey and we wish Show Me Vizsla Club all the luck they deserve!

Rufus is doing great - he and Bridget are living together without issue and even catch a nap on the bed with one of us on Sundays. After working with our vet - we discovered Rufus has some allergies. One OTC 25 mg Benadryl each day has made a huge difference. No more ooky eyes, the snoring is almost non-existant and he’s much calmer - the anxiety over every little thing is over. We were curious to see how he would react to Christmas and the tree - after a few sniffs he decided it wasn't interesting and never bothered a thing. Even Christmas morning he was more interested in sleeping. See picture #1. Santa brought a new holiday hedgehog which is now the fav toy. See picture #2. He still continues to amaze us - it feels like he's been in the family forever. Hope all is well with you - Happy New Year. The Ewton’s
I attached a couple of pics... Since Diva had a mild seizure from a flash
some years ago, she won't put up for picture taking under any circumstances.
I tried to sneak this picture of her...but she knew what was coming. Best shot I could get. Other pic is Jaspar. We were on the beach at Long Island Sound (about 2 miles from my house) on January 1, 2012. It's been an amazingly warm winter.
Many thanks!!
Love and hugs from me, Diva and Jaspar

I just wanted to thank you again for letting us adopt Doc. We have had him a year now. A year ago today we did an up and back to St. Louis to pick him up.
We've had a great time together. He's a character. He has such a friendly and loving personality and he is so much fun to be with.
Thanks again.

It's been thirty days - today - since we met and brought Sam to O'Fallon. In a word, he's ours and won't be coming back to KC except to visit. We couldn't be happier with him. He gives more to us than we can ever give him. Sam found a girl friend at the dog park; would you believe a greyhound? Kay is none to happy with me as I got Sam a matching NY Yankees collar, leash and name tag. Kay's family in KC asked why the Yankees - besides being my favorite baseball team - the Yankees are winners and so is Sam. Congrats you all out did yourselves with Sam. Again, thanks ever so much! Meghan--I thought I'd share this picture of Bettie from last weekend. She really loves hanging outside in the yard with us. Bettie is doing quite well. In cooler weather she has enjoyed running with me and she especially enjoys running on trails. We just had her into the vet and she received a
clean bill of health. I can't tell you how much we love her, she is so precious. We hope you are having a great year, Bettie sends some vizsla kisses. L

Staci & Meghan,
Lucy is on her way home!!! She made her way over 30 BLOCKS south of our house to a family near 170th & Antioch. My sister just picked her up and sent the attached pic. She said she’s tired but totally fine – the family took excellent care of her!!! So very thankful to have her back!!! Feeling unbelievably BLESSED right now. Yes, we learned our lesson. Getting her chipped ASAP!! (Although it shouldn’t be a problem b/c I’m NOT letting her outside to go potty unsupervised EVER again…..)

Derek and Little Girl napping.
She's getting more (!!! MORE!!) treats, love, attention, affection, devotion than ever before (that's NOT possible!). We are spending the most wonderful time together. I am so blessed she is in my life. I will love & cherish her until the day she crosses the Rainbow Bridge. This Rescue Girl from your rescue will be with her Forever Mom forever! Yes, even now I'm crying, but it is tears of joy & immense gratitude for Kansas City Kia/ Meggie Too2 in my life. Her Spirit, her love, her loyalty, her spunk, her playfulness, her velcro-ness (!) & SO MUCH MORE. I am SO grateful for every minute I have w/ her. God bless my Meggie. May she live long & strong. May angels watch over her, may she be guarded by dragons. God bless Vizslas in America & all over the world. And God bless all those wonderful folk all over the country who do the Work of Rescue!

Dear Meghan,
After I talked to you I headed to the store and bought some mineral oil. I gave her almost 3 cc's of mineral oil.
Dorothy is just now telling me (10:30pm) that when I left, Stella went outside looking for me and stayed outside for about 10 minutes.
So I went hunting with my flashlight and YEA, I found fresh dog poop.
So poor Stella got some mineral oil after she pooped. Oh well, I am just glad she is ok. I will keep a watch out for her tomorrow. It is suppose to rain so she and I will probably not go to the farm.
She loves the outdoors and is just a beautiful dog. Today she was out ran me while I was driving the mule or 4X4 utility vehicle.
I did not realize she had been a rescue for so long. I noticed the date on the Holden Animal ticket and it was in the end of July.
Did you know that someone marked her ear? This is a quality dog. I do not think she had much interaction with kids. She does not like being confined such as in a vehicle. She gets car sick. She would rather run beside the truck or mule than ride. At first I had a hard time in getting her in the car or truck but now she associates the vehicles with going to the farm and now will get in the vehicles on her own.
A part of me would like to find her original home simply because I know she must miss her family.
She is so much fun, and gets into everything. She is a natural born hunter.
Two days ago I got her to take a nap with me on the couch after a long day outside. I loved it.
Thank you for Stella.
Sincerely,
Mike
